A lot of acne treatments in the market have salicylic acid in their ingredients. It is a Beta Hydroxy Acid extracted from the bark of a willow tree to generate Salicin. Then it is converted to sugar and later oxidized to form Salicylic Acid. The main function of salicylic acid is for exfoliation of the skin to get rid of dead skin cells. However, salicylic acid is a harsh chemical therefore there are harmful side effects that can not be prevented. These include rashes, dryness, and severe irritation of the skin. Therefore, it is still best if you use an acne treatment that is free of salicylic acid.
